Well, that was something of a false start.

I’m not gonna lie — when I launched the Shady Lawyer Podcast on December 31, 2024, it was fire. There are a lot of crappy legal podcasts out there, and this wasn’t one of them. But after dropping three episodes, I lucked into my current job as Associate Judge of the 360th District Court in Tarrant County. For the first time in my life, I’ve had to concern myself with things like dignity, decorum, and discretion.

Like any prudent jurist, I wrote to the judicial ethics advisory panel to see what I can get away with. The response: I can produce a podcast, but I can’t have actively practicing lawyers as guests because it might give the appearance of impropriety. Since most family lawyers never really retire, that makes booking lawyer guests a challenge.

So where does that leave the Shady Lawyer Podcast? It will return — but probably in a new format. Maybe I’ll ditch the interview style and go solo. Maybe I’ll recruit my hot wife as a co-host (sex sells, right?). Or maybe I’ll come up with something cool that nobody’s thought of yet.

Whatever the case, check back periodically. When it returns, it will still be as irreverent and entertaining as it is educational. We'll see you on the flip-flop.
